DocumentSmart Sanitation Solutions

This booklet, prepared by the Netherlands Water Partnership, is drafted as a contribution to the World Water Forum 2006. It shows alternatives to the large centralised conventional sanitation systems. It presents an extensive selection of the ‘state of the art’ of existing affordable and sustainable sanitation options in their basic form. These techniques offer a solution to the millions of households that do not yet have a proper sanitation facility nearby and contribute to the realisation of the Millennium Development Goals.

The publication is a collaborative effort of the Netherlands Water Partnership, WASTE, Practica, IRC, Simavi and is funded by Partners for Water.

The foreword is written by the Minister for Development Cooperation, Agnes van Aardenne
